Q. Does ARTL (Athens Recreational Tennis League) still exist?
Yes! ARTL is owned and operated by Tennis for Life, Inc. and will continue to provide flexible match play for the community Spring, Summer, Fall and Winter.

Q. I would like information regarding the current tennis session.

Great! TFL, Inc. has classes, teams, special events, tournaments, leagues that begin throughout the year. Just go to Oconee County Tennis Program then click on programs or schedules. A description of all our programs is contained in the web site - continue to browse, have fun!

Q. I have registered for a class, but unfortunately I am no longer able to participate.

This is the TFL refund policy. No refunds or credits will be given after a session begins or within 5 days of the start of the session. If you request a refund at least 5 business days before the session begins, you will have two options
(1) Receive an immediate credit for the full amount
(2) Receive a refund, minus a 25% administration fee.
A credit will be issued in the event an activity cannot be completed due to a documented medical problem. Credits granted can only be used towards TFL coordinated programs. Online registration convenience fees are non-refundable.

Q. It's raining, it's pouring; are we going to have tennis today?

The weather can be a tricky call. Every effort is made to have your tennis lesson. A decision regarding your class or clinic will be made ONE HOUR before your scheduled class time except for Ride the Bus students when a decision will be made at 1:45pm. If it is raining or you think it might be wet at Herman C Michael Park, please call the tennis office: (706) 769.2954. If your class is canceled, the message on the machine will clearly say so - if you hear a generic message that means your class is on schedule. If we can make a decision soon enough we will make every effort to e-mail you.

All classes and clinics will be made up.

Q. It is cold; are we going to have tennis today?

Tennis will be cancelled if the temperature is 35 degrees or below at Herman C Michael Park. Decisions and notification procedure will be the same as the Rain Policy above.

Q. I would like to take individual lessons.

Without a doubt there is no better or quicker way to improve your tennis game or a specific aspect of your game. Go to our Special Services section, from there you can check out the prices and bios of the pros. Then call the tennis office. Leave your name, phone number, your choice of instructor and the instructor will return your phone call - Together, you and the pro can determine a day, time and location. Get ready to take your game to the next level.

Q. I have been taking lessons, and playing tennis for a while now . What's my next step? Should I move up?

And the end of a session, your instructor will hand you a suggestion for your next step. If you are not involved in a program talk to your instructor, talk to your pro or call the Oconee Tennis office at (706) 769.2954.

Q. I would like to join a USTA team?

How exciting! This is when life and your tennis game really improve. You will want to understand the NTRP rating system - see below. Go to Tennislink , talk to your friends and / or call the office at (706) 769-2954 to get a list of captains / teams at your NTRP level. Call the captain - You are set - Have a great time! - Remember, It's just a game. . .

Q. What is the NTRP Rating System?
The U nited S tates T ennis A ssociation has worked in close harmony with the United States Professional Tennis Association and the International Health, Racquet / Sportsclub Association to make available to the tennis -playing public this simplified self-rating program.

The primary goal of the program is to help all tennis players enjoy the game by providing a method of classifying skill levels for more compatible matches, group lessons, league play, tournaments and other programs.

The N ational T ennis R ating P rogram is based on the premise that any placement program must be easy to administer, noncommercial and non-exclusive (in order to be universally accepted and effective). Click here for NTRP levels.

Q. I am interested in hitting with people. What can I do?

The best way is to join a class, clinic or team. Call the tennis office at (706)769-2954 to determine what is the best class for you or check out the Oconee County Tennis Program on the Tennis for Life website..

Or Stacey's method as a kid was to go to the tennis court and wait for someone to show up and ask if she could join them. She was young, times were a little different, but it's worth a try. :)
